Barry James Allen (1932–2026)
The Wellington Rugby Football Union acknowledges with sadness the passing of Barry James Allen, Wellington Lion #985, at the age of 93.
Barry made his Wellington representative debut on 22 September 1951 against Taranaki, beginning a proud association with the black and gold that spanned seven seasons. His final appearance for Wellington came against Canterbury on 28 September 1957.
Across his Wellington A career, Barry played 14 first-class matches, scoring six tries (18 points). He represented Wellington while playing for Oriental Rugby Football Club from 1951 to 1954 before transferring to Onslow Rugby Football Club, where he made his remaining representative appearances in 1957.
In addition to his Wellington A appearances, Barry also played 10 other first-class matches for Wellington, scoring five tries (15 points).
