Legacy Fund (NZ Rugby)

A $60 million perpetual community fund supporting long‑term, intergenerational initiatives that strengthen community rugby, enhance wellbeing, improve facilities and honour rugby’s heritage.

This page provides the information you need to understand the Legacy Fund and prepare an application. 

Applying in 2027

Applications are now closed for 2026. 

Two application rounds are expected to be held in 2027:

• Round 1 is expected to open in February or March 2027, with successful applicants announced around July 2027
• Round 2 is expected to open in August 2027, with successful applicants announced around December 2027
• These dates are indicative and will be confirmed as soon as possible
• The maximum Legacy Fund request is currently $100,000 per application
• Any changes to the 2027 funding settings will be communicated before the relevant application round opens

Tū Manawa Fund (Nuku Ora)

Supports projects that help tamariki and rangatahi be active, with a strong focus on inclusion and participationn, especially for young women and girls.

Funding Streams:

• Smaller Project Fund: Up to $10,000
• Open Fund: Over $10,000

Local example: the 2026 WRFU Junior Girls‑Only Programme was supported through this fund.
