Developing Rugby Coaches (DRC) Course (Level 2)

What is the DRC?
The DRC course is New Zealand Rugby’s equivalent of World Rugby’s Level 2 course.

What is the main focus of DRC?
The key focus of this course is the coaching process. This relates to the application of how to apply the principles of play (attack and defence) to your planning, implementing and review of your team’s training sessions and game performance. 

What do you need to do to complete the course?
To complete this course & become a DRC accredited coach you need to complete the following tasks:·        


Attend the following module presentations:

  • Principles of play, Role of the coach, Scrum, Lineout, Kick re-starts, Attack, Defence, Breakdown, Game shape, Counterattack. (At present the modules are run over one weekend)

  • Complete a comprehensive logbook/diary of training session and matches. (50 hours of coaching)

  • Complete a coach appraisal – A coach educator will view coach training/coaching their team to ensure the coach is able to display the required competencies.

  • Complete the required online World Rugby modules.
