WRFU is proud to welcome Amohia Te Waiora – We’re stronger without alcohol as a new community partner through to 2027.

Amohia Te Waiora is a national campaign focused on reducing alcohol-related harm and promoting community wellbeing across Aotearoa. Grounded in a strengths-based approach, the campaign encourages mana motuhake the power of self-determination and supports communities in making choices that prioritise wellness and connection.

"Minimising alcohol-related harm is an important step toward a healthy and equitable society," says a spokesperson for Amohia Te Waiora. "Our kaupapa is about creating space for better things – more kōrero, stronger whānau connections, and a deeper relationship with our whenua and culture."

WRFU CEO Tony Giles says the partnership reflects rugby’s growing role in promoting positive change beyond the sidelines.

“Rugby has the power to bring people together and with that comes a responsibility to support the wellbeing of our communities,” says Giles. “We’re proud to stand alongside Amohia Te Waiora to help spark kōrero, challenge norms, and encourage healthier choices for current and future generations.”

As part of the partnership, the Amohia Te Waiora logo will feature proudly on the playing apparel of both the Wellington Lions and the Wellington Pride teams for the 2025-27 seasons.

The partnership aligns with WRFU’s ongoing commitment to positive community impact, and to supporting environments where all people especially Māori, Pacific communities, and those disproportionately affected by alcohol harm can thrive.

Amohia Te Waiora offers a unifying call for change. It’s a movement that can be owned and led by communities themselves to reshape the role alcohol plays in our lives.

Together, WRFU and Amohia Te Waiora look forward to promoting healthier, more connected futures on and off the field.
