Wellington Rugby is proud to announce that BCITO has expanded its support of rugby in the capital by partnering with the Wellington Lions as the official sponsor of jersey number 16.

The new agreement builds on BCITO’s existing partnership with the Wellington Rugby, where they are the naming rights partner for all WRFU age-grade representative teams. Together, these initiatives demonstrate BCITO’s strong commitment to creating pathways for young people both on and off the field.

BCITO GM Marketing and Growth Paddy Kymbrekos” BCITO is proud to sponsor our age-grade rugby team and to stand behind the number 16 jersey – a symbol that represents the 16 different trades we provide apprenticeship training in across New Zealand.

The number 16 reflects the breadth of opportunity within construction and the essential skills that apprentices gain to help build stronger futures for themselves, their whānau, and their communities. Just as the number 16 is a vital position on the field, our 16 trades are vital to the growth and resilience of Aotearoa’s construction industry.

Supporting youth sport is a natural fit for BCITO. Our sponsorship of these age-grade teams underlines our belief that the youth of today will build the future of tomorrow. Whether on the sports field or on the building site, commitment, teamwork, and perseverance are the qualities that create success.

WRFU CEO Tony Giles says, “It’s fantastic to see BCITO furthering their support of Wellington Rugby through the Lions jersey 16 partnership. Their continued investment, both at age-grade and senior levels, is a real testament to their belief in nurturing potential and creating opportunities for our players and our community.”

BCITO is New Zealand’s largest provider of construction trade apprenticeships, helping thousands of learners build rewarding careers through on-the-job training and expert guidance. By backing both WRFU’s age-grade representative teams and the Lions, BCITO is investing in the growth of rugby talent in Wellington while reinforcing the value of building strong futures in the trades.
