Performance Analysis Internship Opportunity

Wellington Rugby are seeking an internship candidate who is driven and passionate about rugby union, with a good knowledge of rugby and its structures, and is willing to develop their analysis skills in a high-performance sport environment.

The successful candidate will be provided with the opportunity to work alongside a world-class coaching and playing group with proven success, where you will gain invaluable learnings through engaging in a high-performance sports team.

Duration: July-November 2024

The role starts in July to coincide with the start of the Lions NPC campaign and will allow for a buffer time where the candidate will familiarise themselves with the key responsibilities for the campaign.

Working hours will differ throughout the duration of the internship, based on the rugby calendar. We are looking for someone who can commit to 3-4 training days per week, up to 10 home games (inclusive of preseason fixtures and potential home finals), and independent work outside of these times. Expectations around availability can be discussed upon application. The nature of this role will require working irregular or extended hours including evenings and weekends.

Most of the role will be based at NZCIS in Upper Hutt, with home games played at Jerry Collins Stadium (Porirua) and Sky Stadium (Wellington).

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist staff and players in the use of performance analysis

- Filming and coding of trainings and games

- Providing data/footage for preview in a specific area of rugby union (attack, defence, or set-piece)

- Databasing and sharing footage from trainings and all Wellington Lions NPC matches

- Generally assisting the analyst team and coaching staff where required.

Required Experience and Skills:

- Previous experience using Hudl and Hudl Sportscode

- Have completed or are working towards a tertiary qualification in Sports Science or other relevant subject

- Good knowledge of rugby union

- Proficient IT skills and ability to use Apple, IOS software, and applications including Keynote and Numbers.

- Ability to operate a range of camera equipment to film high-quality footage

- Use of design creation software such as iMovie or Adobe Photoshop is beneficial but not essential.
