Clubs Confirm Start Dates for 2022 Senior Competitions

|   News

Clubs have tonight decided on the start dates for 2022 senior rugby competition.

This evening Clubs agreed on the start dates for Senior Club Rugby competitions in 2022. This followed previous correspondence that the Premier Men’s and Women’s grades would commence on April 2nd, with the remaining grades no earlier than 16 April.

Confirmed start dates for 2022 Senior Club Rugby as follows:

  • Premier Women – April 2nd
  • Premier Men – April 2nd
  • Premier 2 Men – April 23rd
  • Under 85kg – April 23rd
  • Under 21 – April 30th
  • Reserve Grade – April 30th
  • Presidents – April 30th

The draw for the Premier Women’s Rebecca Liua’ana Cup will be completed this weekend and published on Monday following confirmation of teams. Draws for all other grades will be published the Monday of their first match.

Clubs have also agreed to some regulation addendums focused on providing COVID-19 flexibility. These include provisions that will ensure competition points will be split if a match can't proceed due to COVID-19 rather than teams having to default matches.

Clubs were also reminded that Wellington is facing a referee shortage with just 49 referees registered this season leaving a very real risk that matches may need to proceed without referees. For anyone interested in picking up the whistle please contact David Walsh on 0800 REFEREE or david.walsh@wrfu.co.nz.
