Thank You to all of our Volunteers

News - News 2009

Friday, 04 December 2009 02:57

Saturday December 5th 2009 is International Volunteer Day and Wellington Rugby Chief Executive Officer Greg Peters has paid tribute to the thousands of volunteers throughout the region who do so much for the game.

"Over 500,000 people serve as volunteers for sport and recreation organisations around New Zealand and Wellington Rugby simply wouldn't be able to operate without the help of our dedicated and selfless volunteers," he explained.

"Volunteers are incredibly important to us at every level and our players owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Every Wellington, Hurricanes and All Blacks representative has benefitted from a vast number of people working for the love of the game. Without the help they receive at grassroots level, players simply wouldn't have the opportunity to develop into professional players.

"On behalf of everyone associated with Wellington Rugby, I would like to thank each and every one of our volunteers for all of their help throughout 2009 and we look forward to working with them in 2010."

In 1985, the United Nations General Assembly designated 5 December as an annual celebration of voluntary action by people, communities and governments of the world.

2010 Hurricanes Squad Announced

Thursday, 12 November 2009 01:18

The 2010 Hurricanes squad sees the return of the majority of the players who took the franchise to the semi-finals in 2009, boasting a wealth of experience with the inclusion of 13 All Blacks. Hurricanes Head Coach Colin Cooper also names six new Hurricanes, although two of them have gained Rebel Sport Super 14 experience with the Crusaders. He is understandably delighted with the strength of his squad, particularly as he has had to utilise the draft system in areas where there was not enough experience from within the region.

“Obviously I’m very excited by this squad as we have a core of experienced players plus six new Hurricanes: three from Manawatu and three who were part of Canterbury’s Air New Zealand Cup winning side,” he explained.
