The 2010 event was a huge success with 16 teams from the region participating at Trentham Memorial Park on Wednesday September 15th.
This event has become the number one sporting event in the Intermediate Calendar and was again brilliantly supported by Waterman Innovations.
Teams play a round robin of 16 mintues games (2 x 8-minute halves) in their pool of 4 which make for exciting, fast and closely contested games. The winner of each pool moves onto the Championship Semi Finals and the other teams play off for the Plate, Shield and Bowl based on their finishing position in their pool.
This year the grand final was a very closely contested affair between the local side, Maidstone Intermediate and Raroa Intermediate from Johnsonville.
With a score of nil-all at half time the game was very tight. Maidstone broke the deadlock mid way through the second spell with a great run and try by stand out centre Jayden Treviranus. Raroa bounced back a few minutes later with a well worked try and only the conversion by Player of the Tournament Zac Donaldson separated the sides. Raroa held on frantically in the final minute as Maidstone threw everything at them to win 7-5.
Other winners on the day were:
Championship Winner: Raroa Intermediate
Plate Winner: Titahi Bay Intermediate
Shield Winner: Hutt Intermediate
Bowl Winner: Tawa Intermediate
On hand to present trophies and speak with the Kids was Vodafone Wellington Lions Captain, Rodney So'oialo and Coach Andre Bell.
Rodney was particularly happy presenting the plate to his old School Titahi Bay Intermediate.
A huge vote of thanks was given to Waterman Innovations for their continued support of this event and the work that they do for Schools in the region.
