The American Ambassadors Sevens is Wellington's premier local 7's tournament. It has been played for every year since 1967 when it was first presented by then Ambassador John F. Henning. This year will see the current American Ambassador David Huebner present the trophy to the winner of the American Ambassadors 7's at Porirua Park Number 3 on Saturday afternoon.
Kicking off at 10am on Saturday morning the tournament will consist of 14 club teams from Wellington and is being used as a great run-in to the pre-season programme as we build towards the Swindale Shield of 2010. The final of the cup competition will kick off at 3pm. Oriental-Rongotai are the two-time defending champions and will enter two teams this weekend with strong designs on victory.
Ambassador Huebner is a self-confessed rugby fanatic and Wellington Rugby is honoured to have him available to present what is a prestigious trophy to the winner of our premier local sevens tournament.
Entry is free and access to Poriua Park 3 and 4 is available via Gear Terrace off Mungavin Avenue in Porirua East (see the link below). The public is encouraged to come along, bring a BBQ, the chilly bin and enjoy an exciting day of Sevens Rugby.
