American Ambassador's Trophy Presentation
American Ambassador David Huebner presented the Wellington Rugby Board with a spectacular new trophy earlier this week to commemorate the strong association with Wellington Sevens rugby.
The John F Henning Trophy, first presented in 1967 by the US Ambassador of the time is awarded to the premier Wellington club sevens team annually as the winner of the American Ambassador Sevens Tournament. Northern United are the current holders of the trophy. Ambassador Huebner, a rugby fanatic, was keen to contribute to the local rugby scene and presented the new trophy to Rugby Board Chairman Peter Scott at their final Board meeting of the year. The current trophy, now 44 years old, will be replaced by the new version and presented to the winners of the 2011 Tournament to be held at Trentham Memorial Park on Saturday 19 February.
