WRFU and The Dominion Post are on the hunt for Wellington’s ultimate club rugby star – The Dominion Post WRFU Volunteer of the Year.
We all know that volunteers are vital to the success of any club. They breathe life and energy into our clubs, and it’s not often we get to thank them for it. So, here’s your chance. We know it’s not easy, but we want to know who’s your Club Volunteer of the Year.
If you’ve got a club member who has constantly gone beyond the call of duty, now’s your chance to nominate them! There are prizes for the winner from each club. WRFU will select their top three finalists for the ultimate award – The Dominion Post WRFU Volunteer of the Year. Three finalists will attend the annual Wellington Rugby Tui Awards Dinner in November where the overall winner will be announced.
Steve Barnden - Stokes Valley RFC
Steve has spent most weekdays this year, and weekends pre-season at the rugby club. During this time Steve, along with help he has mustered, has painted the roof, outside walls and most of the interior of the clubrooms. Inside the building the work involved removing and replacing hundereds of photos and various adornments.
Before Saturday club days, Steve spent many hours tidying up, repairing fittings etc to make the club useable. In his capacity as Building and Grounds Manager, Steve has also looked after general maintenance. Steve is the club Treasurer and has also found time to assist with various fundraising initiatives. He is currently making arrangements for an amateur boxing tournament at the club which is expected to be a big fundraiser.
