Over the weekend of the 9th and 10th January the National Sevens tournament will be held at the Queenstown Recreation Ground. 16 teams from around the country will battle for the national title, in what is bound to be a tough competition. In 2009 the Wellington team performed well, but were knocked out in the Semi Finals, by eventual winners of the tournament North Harbour.
The 12 man Wellington squad for the tournament includes several players from the 2009 Vodafone Wellington Lions, including Buxton Popoalii who has been playing for the New Zealand Sevens team in the recent Dubai and South African tournaments. All games will be broadcast on Sky Sport 1.
